Liver - Keep it healthy!

Liver is said to be one of the most important organs in our body. I partly agree with this, because I believe all parts of our body is extremely important. But being the place where all the toxins accumulate, it is true that we have to take care of this one organ; the liver.

Why? Liver acts like a filter. It helps to filter out toxins from our blood system before blood is being pumped to the whole body. Toxins are from the food we ate, drinks we drank, air we breathed ...

How often do you change your water filter at home? It only does water filteration, but still, we need to cleanse it once in a while. And that's only the tap water, which seems to be colourless with our naked eye. What about Teh Tarik, air Sirap, and Coke that we drank? Not only that, the food we ate; Nasi Lemak, Roti Canai, fast food with all the variety names and colours. Poluted air that we breathe, smokers, 2nd-hand smokers ... All of these are filtered by our liver, and after that goes to the kidneys for the next filteration process. Our body systems are truly amazing. There has not been a man-made machine which can operate 24 hours a day, every single day till the day it stops working. It may be 10, 20 or even 100 years, but it will continue working till the day it stops forever.
So when our body starts to give signs or symptoms of failure in certain parts, do not ignore these signs. Pay attention to it. Your body does not need a mechanic to repair its parts, it is self-healed. (Remember Claire Bennett?) Yes, we too have the ability to heal. Only that, we don't grow back our toes once we cut it off. The only question is, how good can we heal?

To determine how good can we heal, one of the important factorsto have a healthy liver. Healthy liver will make our immune system be in a good condition, and everything else will come after. Immune system is like a line of defense ready to go for war. Once we have a very good and competent line of soldiers, we could fight any enemies who try entering our body such as viruses, bad bacterias, including SARS, H1N1, etc.

When toxins are not cleansed out from the liver, liver will shrink and harden with scarring. This condition is called cirrhosis. When this happened, the liver slowly loses its functions which includes to cleanse the toxins and wastes in our blood, and manufacture vital nutrients. Causes of liver cirrhosis are from chronic alcohol abuse, drugs usage (including prescribed medicine), and virus infection.

Sounds scary? You better be. But fret-not. If you can't avoid from such kind of lifestyle, there are ways found to prevent liver disease from occuring. Heard of the phrase 'prevention is better than cure'? I would like to highlight here that prevention is CHEAPER than cure. How?

Well, good news to coffee lovers out there. Researchers in the United States have found that several cups of coffee a day could stop the progression of liver disease, according to studies. Sufferers of chronic hepatitis C and advanced liver disease who drank three or more cups of coffee per day slashed their risk of the disease progressing by 53% compared to patients who drank no coffee. This study was lead by Neal Freedman of the US National Cancer Institute (NCI) .

The researchers put forward several ways in which coffee intake might protect against liver disease, including by reducing the risk of type 2 diabetes, which has been associated with liver illness, or by reducing inflammation, which is thought to cause fibrosis and chirossis of the liver.

Even caffeine, the chemical that gives a cup of coffee its oomph, came under the spotlight, having been found in previous studies to inhibit liver cancer in rats. But drinking black or green tea, which also contain caffeine, had little impact on the progression of liver disease, although there were few tea drinkers in the study.

Interesting? Indeed!

Please beware that 'coffee' in the context means REAL coffee. Yes, freshly brewed coffees from your nearest Starbucks store is considered as real (Coffee Frappuccino is not counted). Most ground coffee in the local stores do not provide us 100% real coffee. So, please be wise when choosing the right item.

If you're still thinking of which coffee to buy, apart from Star(cough)bucks, you might want to try CEO Cafe from Shuang Hor which obviously have the good grade of coffee in it, plus, it has extract of YungKien Ganoderma, which has been certified to regulate immune system and liver protection. From where I can see, if you're opting for an affordable liver protection, CEO Cafe is worth trying and of course it is value for your money!

Let's detoxify our liver today!

Quick update!

Tiger is still on his medication given by MrVet and I would like to thank Ma'am R for donating a box of JiaHor Nutri-Health Tablet for Tiger. At the moment, Tiger is taking 1-2 tablets per day together with 1 capsule of his medicine by MrVet. The antibiotic tablet has finished about a week ago. He's also been given Lu Chun LingZhi Tea once in a while. My observation, some of the wounds on his body are slowly recovering. Nose is still bad but the colour is getting pinkish instead of bloody red. I will update with his photo in my next post.
Another cat of mine, Chuck, infected with a drier version of a type of fungus on his forehead. Has been treating him with Scalpcare Shampoo and applied GreenZhi on the infected area everyday. The infected skin almost dried up and 80% recovered. I am still washing his forehead with Scalpcare Shampoo and applying GreenZhi after washing it off. Will see the progress in another few more weeks.
Another male cat, Neng, just got back from mating session. He's infected with ringworm according to his groomer. He's >10-year-old so a lot of things need to be taken care of. So sad that I only realize about it recently. Will start to give him on-coat treatment tomorrow. Owh, and his stones might have came back. So am feeding him with LuChun LingZhi Tea and we'll see how it goes in few days time. Hopefully he will urinate normally without having to go to the clinic to suck out the stones. Ouch!

Sporothrix schenckii

About a month ago, a cat came around to our house. Well, of course there are many cats who came to our house to eat. But this one particular cat was no stranger to us. He has been coming to our house to eat for quite a while. But 4 weeks ago, he came with his body badly wounded. I thought he got a fight with other male cat/dog. The worst part was his nose. Almost half of it was torn. Small patches all over his body, hands and feet. I did not bother to give him treatment at that time because I thought to myself, it was pretty normal for stray cats to get caught in a fight and sooner or later the wound will heal by itself. But I was wrong. Few days back, he came to our house again. This time, I saw the wounds did not get any better at all. In fact, it got worse. The bleeding has not dried yet. All the patches were bleeding. Worst part is still the nose. I decided not to wait any second and put him in a cage. After feeding him, I applied Greenzhi toothgel to the infected area, thinking that it was just normal wound. Knowing that Greenzhi could be a little painful to be applied, I tried to calm him down first. But surprisingly, he did not over react or scratch me when applying Greenzhi on his wounds. He sort of knew that I am trying to help him or maybe he just could not stand the pain anymore and just let me do whatever with him. Only God knows. The next day, it did not get any better and I asked the vet to come over and look at the cat. Let's call the cat Tiger.

The moment MrVet looked at Tiger, he immediately knew what's wrong. He said that Tiger did not get into a fight. He has been infected with a type of fungus called Sporothrix. I was kinda shocked as I was not expecting it to be fungus infection because all this while, I thought fungus infection would be dry, and not bleeding horribly. He recommended a one-month treatment for Tiger together with antibiotic. It will all be capsule & tablet, no cream can be applied. We just started giving him the medication yesterday and MrVet said if there's improvement, it can be seen after 15days. I really hope he will get better because according to MrVet, other cats and even human could get infected. It is dangerous if the infected cat scratched/bit us. So, he said that after a month, if there's no improvement, we should decide on what to do with Tiger, either to continue with the (expensive) treatment or .... :c
For the time being, I feed him medication together with Soy Protein and Lu Chun Tea. At the moment, I can't afford to give him Yung Kien LingZhi. If any of you would like to donate, please contact me on how to purchase the stocks for him. Even Nutri-Health Tablet would help. :c

Mr Vet asked me to do some research on the disease and like always, MrWiki never failed me. Here is some info :

Sporothrix schenckii is a thermally dimorphic fungus that can be found world-wide, and is the only active species of the genus Sporothrix.

The species is present in soil, and in vital and decomposing plant material such as peat moss. Colonies grow moderately rapidly at 25°C. They are moist, leathery to velvety, and have a finely wrinkled surface. The colour is white initially and becomes cream to dark brown in time (“dirty candle-wax” colour). At 37°C, colonies are yeast-like and creamy. The colour is cream to beige. The conversion of the mould form to the yeast form is identification of Sporothrix schenckii. Infections due to Sporothrix schenckii are more common at certain geographical areas. Peru is an area of hyperendemicity for Sporothrix schenckii infections.[1] Sporothrix schenckii is the causative agent of sporotrichosis or rose-handler's disease. Sporotrichosis is a subcutaneous infection and it starts following entry of the infecting fungus through the skin via a minor injury and may affect an otherwise healthy individual. Following entry, the infection may spread via the lymphatic route (nodular lymphangitis may develop). Patients infected with Sporothrix schenckii may be misdiagnosed as pyoderma gangrenosum due to the large ulcerations observed during the course of sporotrichosis.[2]

Salam Eid Mubarak

To all the Muslim readers, Salam Eid Mubarak. :)

It's been a while since I posted the last entry. Anyways, just would like to highlight that we're moving towards the end of September 09, so there will be only 2 meetings left for this month. The next one will be on the 26th of September 09 (TODAY!) at 3pm-5pm. It'll be in Bahasa Malaysia. The last meeting for September will be the Cantonese slot on the 30th September 09. So if you're free on the said dates, do come and listen to what will be shared by the speakers on those days. For newbies, not to worry, the meeting is free of charge. No registration what-so-eva. Just be present to learn and share knowledge with others. :)

We're still in festive mood and I've been receiving messages from friends and relatives saying that they are not feeling well with stomach upset, fever, headaches and such. So here, I would like to remind everyone, please watch what you are eating. Especially when we have just completed our 1-month of Ramadhan. One simple advice given by my upline was, not to leave Shuang Hor's CEO Cafe behind. It's the most economical way to ease your stomach, relieve your headache, and insya Allah, lower down the temperature of your fever. Always monitor your digestive system and drink plenty of liquid!

Most of you are afraid to take CEO Cafe because of the caffeine contents. Not to worry. Since there is YungKien Ganoderma in CEO Cafe, the excessed caffeine will be flushed out from the body about 2 hours after consumption. And some of you might not know that moderate intake of caffeine in our body could actually improve our health condition. Caffeine helps to activate our body's nerve system which could make the YungKien Ganoderma reaction to be more effective and achieve faster result.

Visit Shuang Hor's website for further details on the ingredients and functions of CEO Cafe (also available in sugar-free : suitable for diabetic patients).

Type A H1N1 Influenza

I just recovered from Type A H1N1 symptoms :

- fever
- cough
- sore throat
- body aches
- headache

Yes, the symptoms are very much similar to regular human flu's because by the name itself, Type A H1N1 Influenza is just another flu. From what we've heard in news where the number of cases increased daily, it can be said that anyone (in Malaysia, specifically) could be infected with the virus.

Many of us freaked out when this virus becomes the no. 1 cause of death these days. When the fact is, many people even died from the normal seasonal flu and some suffered badly for the rest of their life from high fever at a very young age. Truth is, any type of flu is as dangerous as Type A H1N1. So my advice is, if you're having flu symptoms - fever, cough, sore throat, etc. - do not take it lightly. Get early treatment. Do not wait for the test result to confirm whether you are a H1N1 positive or otherwise. I have a friend whose sister was diagnosed as a normal patient with regular flu and later when they checked at another medical centre, she was confirmed H1N1 positive. Imagine how many people have been infected with the virus while waiting for her status to be confirmed. And why didn't the first doctor detect the virus?

The thing is, we have to keep ourselves protected all the time. Just because the doctor says it is a 'normal flu', we should not shove it off our shoulders. So aside from putting on your face masks and avoiding crowded places, don't neglect the most powerful 'army' who can fight those merciless viruses which is your own body's immune system. Make sure it's strong enough to face all the enemies coming from any angle. How, you must say? Of course, one of the ways is to consume our special Yung Kien LingZhi which has been researched and tested to be able to strengthen our immune system and protect our liver so that we are ready to fight any disease!

Chicken Wings

Avoid eating chicken wings frequently (or at all!) - ladies especially...

As told by a friend :

A friend of mine recently had a growth in her womb and she underwent an operation to remove it. The cyst removed was filled with a dark coloured blood. She thought that she would be recovered after the surgery BUT she was terribly wrong!

A repalse occured just a few months later. Distressed, she rushed down to her gynecologist for a consultation.

During her consultation, her doctor asked her a question that puzzled her. He asked if she was a frequent consumer of chicken wings and she replied YES wondering as to how he know of her eating habit.

You see, the truth is in this modern day and age, chickens are injected with steroids to accelerate their growth so that the needs of this society can be met. This need is none other than the need for food.

Chickens that are injected with steroids are usually given the shot at the neck or the wings. Therefore, it is in these places that the highest concentration of steroid exists. These steroids have terrifying effects on the body as it accelerates growth.

It has an even more dangerous effect in the presence of female hormones, this leads to women being more prone to the growth of a cyst in the womb. Therefore, I advise the people out there to watch their diets and to lower their frequency of consuming chicken wings!
