Vege Fritters

An easy way to trick your kids (if they are fussy) to eat veges. Chop them up and turn them into fritters!

Ingredients :

Eggs (beat eggs first, and mix the rest of the ingredients together - to get that fluffy fritters)
Flour
Milk
Water
Veges - any kind, really. in this case,  I used carrot & french beans (chopped)
Little bit of salt & sugar to taste (so that adults can enjoy the goodness too ^_^)

Method :

Combine all ingredients and FRY!

Combine . Fry . Bon appetit!

Congenital Nephrosis

A 2 MONTHS OLD boy was diagnosed with Congenital Nephrosis in 2000. Both kidneys were only 10% functional at that time. Urea & creatine levels were much higher than normal :

Urea level - 22.5mmol/l
Creatine level - 203.3mmol/l

Early symptoms :
1) very serious diarrhoea
2) frequent vomiting
3) poor appetite
4) weight loss
5) weak. sleep interrupted every 10mins

At this stage, doctor recommended DIALYSIS.

The parents refused to proceed with doctor's recommendation. So the boy started consuming Shuang Hor's products in May 2000.

He started with :
18 Lingzhi, 36 Pollen, 4 Soy Protein & Luchun Tea

Early reactions after taking SH products : Constipation & very very stinky stool

Positive reactions after taking SH products :
1) diarrhoea & vomiting reduced
2) constipation improved
3) appetite improved
4) weight increased (3.7kg - 9kg)

In March 2001, he went for medical checkup, Urea & Creatine level were very much improved :

Urea level - 10.2mmol/l
Creatine level - 57mmol/l

Dosage was maintained with :
2 Lingzhi, 6 Pollen, 2 Soy Protein, Luchun Tea

**Note : Other than those mentioned above, early symptoms can be discovered by observing puffiness in certain parts of the body (face/feet/hands/tummy) due to kidney failure which cause water retention.

5 minutes meal

For those of you who have small children, have you ever had problems with your kids' appetite? Especially when they are >1 year old. Sometimes I too get worried but as long as she drinks water/milk, I know I should not be worrying much. The trick is to always try something new until she stops refusing. But this one particular menu, definitely won't make them turn around -- I know my baby won't! For busy moms, or when your kid suddenly woke up and demands food - FAST! This is something worth to try.

Ingredients :
Hang your bananas!

Oat - 2½ tablespoon
Water - just enough to cook the oat
Banana - 1 piece
Cheese - 1 slice

Method :

1) Bring oat & water to boil and stir frequently (to avoid it getting burnt). Because the water is not too much, ensure all the oats are immersed in water when boiling. This should take about 1-2 minutes.

2) While waiting for the oat to be ready, mash a piece of banana in a bowl. I like to mash it till smooth (not chunks) so that my baby can taste the banana in every spoon.

3) Once oat is thicken, remove from heat and immediately pour it into the mashed banana. Place a slice of cheese right on top of it and mix everything together with a spoon. Because the oat is still hot, the cheese would get soften and gradually melt easily making the porridge smooth and thick. And because the cheese was taken right from the chiller, this meal should get cool and safe to be eaten within 1-2 minutes. Of course, test a little on your lips (with your fingers, if you're fasting ^_^) to confirm, before feeding your little one.

Super quick and easy, yeah? You can substitute banana with half an apple, pear or any other fruits. But instead of mashing them, just dice them in small cubes and boil together with the oat. When my baby was much smaller, she enjoyed oat-egg-cheese. Same method.

I never expect her to finish her meal everytime. If there are leftovers, I usually keep it covered in case she still wants a little bit more within the next hour or so (before it turns bad, of course). If she doesn't, don't feel bad. Just wash them away & start thinking of her next meal. I'm guessing it would be macaroni & scramble eggs in a few more hours!

Baby batuk & selesema

Was having a normal conversation with my cousin last week, on WhatsApp. She mentioned about her 9-months-old baby girl, just recovered from regular fever. Below is our conversation :

"...demam nak tumbuh gigi kot. Masa hari pertama demam lap kain je. Masa tu tak terpikir nak bagi Nutritab. Pastu gi klinik sebab dah 39°C, takut kena sawan. Tapi takdelah sampai bagi ubat punggung tu. Cuba bagi ubat klinik dalam 2ml. Sekali je bagi pastu tak bagi dah. Esoknya demam dah surut. Tinggal selsema + batuk + kahak. Baru teringat kat Nutritab. Try blend sekali dengan bubur dia. 2 hari bagi. Masa tu tak sempat nak tanya Aiya lagi, dah panik. Huhu, boleh kan bagi Nutritab kat baby?"
"Pastu dia asyik kentut² je macam sakit perut pulak. Semalam tak berak, tapi selesema macam dah kurang."

"...Nutritab boleh bagi kat baby. Kentut² tu bagus. Kalau tak kentut, baru dia kembung perut. Mungkin reaction...sebab tu dia tak berak / kentut banyak awal² makan Nutritab. Elok teruskan aje"

"Kentut busukkk sangat pulak tu. Banyak kali cek pampers dia ingatkan berak. Tak berak jugak. Haha. Nanti kang makan tengah hari blend lagi. Tapi dia makan lambat je. Tak sedap sikit, haha. Harap² lah harini dia berak, nanti kang ayah dia bising² pulak bagi bukan² tapi tak berak². Tak sabar nak tunggu dia berak ni. Huhuhu..."

"Kentut busuk sebab dia tak berak kan? So lagi kena suruh dia kentut. Kalau tak, gas busuk tu dok dalam badan. Lagipun, memang awal² orang makan lingzhi, kentut & berak busuk sangat! Sebab dalam perut , yang kotor² tu nak keluar. Bagus tau!"
**Ada kes, cancer patient dalam ICU, lepas makan lingzhi, berak busuk sangat sampai nurses kena spray air-freshener 1 wad!**
"Kalau dari kecik dah bersih, insya Allah lebih senang nak jaga nanti. Naema dulu masa awal² makan lingzhi, dia berak macam ada black pepper. Bintik² hitam keluar. "
"Just bagi air & susu banyak"

"Ni first time try bagi Nutritab sebab tak confident nak bagi ubat klinik. Ubat tu untuk turunkan suhu je. Bukan baikkan dia. Lagipun, dia dah 5 bulan tak pernah demam. So tak standby apa² untuk dia. Last demam umur 3 bulan. Sekarang dah 9 bulan..."

"...biasalah tu demam nak tumbuh gigi. Takpe, kalau demam lagi, letak tuala basah kat kepala sentiasa bagi temperature tak panas sangat. "
"Lagipun, kalau temperature naik, maknanya badan tengah bina antibodi (senjata) nak lawan virus (musuh). So bagus tau. Tapi nak kena jaga jangan bagi panas sangat. Letak towel basah. Bagi minum air"

And so, that was the earlier conversation with her. Sorry, there were a lot mentioning about the b-word & k-word... tapi itulah hakikatnya. Nak monitor kesihatan badan, mesti check ... you know the words - kentut & berak**Err, excuse me. Ehem** And a day after, she texted :

"Salam. Nak citer. Malam tadi kul 8 Hana berak. Bau dia ... masya Allah. Nak pengsan! Haha. Selama ni best je blend bubur dia dengan Nutritab tapi tak rasa. Tadi try, pahitnya! Patutla terkulat2 dia makan. Huhu Alhamdulillah, selesema dah kurang sikit tapi masih ada lagi. Hidung masih tersumbat lagi. Insya Allah akan bagi dia makan Nutritab sampai dah tak selesema. Amin"

"W'salam warahmatullah. Alhamdulillah... Haa kan dah cakap! Hihihi. Good². Berak hitam ke? Biar ajar die makan pahit² nanti esok² senang nak bagi lagi. ^_^"

"Tak hitam. Kuning pekat"

On 13th June 2013, she texted again :

"Salam. Aiya...hari ke-7 makan Nutritab barulah Hana berak kaler hitam. Sebelum² ni kuning macam biasa. Sehari makan sebijik Nutritab. Batuk selesema masih ada lagi, tapi makin berkurangan :)"

Alhamdulillah. The moment she mentioned about 'berak hitam' (or should I call it 'black-berry' from now on :D ), lega rasanya. Memang seronok dengar orang dapat keluarkan kotoran yang dah mula bertepek dalam badan. And I just felt like, Superman saves another day. ^_^

Baby Hana, another 'Lingzhi baby' <3
Sorry, but if you feel disgusted reading the above story, you better scrape off all the dirts in your body now. If you haven't got the 'blackberries' in that toilet bowl. Trust me, they are still in you. Ewwww!

Naema : An Eczema survivor story

When my baby was 6 months old, she suffered from eczema-like symptoms. A doctor-friend diagnosed her as having skin infections on eczema. Her body temperature raised up in the first few days while she's battling with the skin irritations. This happened about a year ago, something that I've post-poned to share for too long. ^_^ Here are some of the evidences to say it all ...

22/02/2012 - Day 01
Red spots appeared on both arms in the morning. Fed her Yung Kien Lingzhi (Half capsule / day) and Soy Protein.
23/02/2012 - Day 02
More red spots on both arms and legs. Near to the joints - elbows & knees.
Also some red spots appeared on her neck-chest area.
She had rice & carrot for breakfast. By noon - vomited EVERYTHING. By evening, temperature starts to rise to 37.8C
Red spots also appeared on her bottom. Applied VCare Body Lotion on the bottom and Greenzhi for the rest of her body. Spots became more intense red. By this time, Naema refused to eat and breastfeed. Had to force-BF her. Still on Yung Kien Lingzhi (Half capsule / day)
24/02/2012 - Day 03
No more increase of the red spots and they have started to dry. Still taking Yung Kien Lingzhi, Greenzhi on the spots (very good to dry out wounds faster)
29/02/2012 - Day 08
Red spots have completely dried. Dried skins are peeling off. Applied VCare Body Lotion to  enhance recovery.
01/03/2012 - Day 09
Most dried skins have peeled off (naturally and while slowly scrubbing during bath)
05/03/2012 - Day 13
Alhamdulillah. Fully recovered. :)
Of course, this happened in 2012. And now, she's healthier than before. Kindly note that during the whole process, she only rely on her own body immune system to recover and no drugs / steroid creams were prescribed. She only took Yung Kien Lingzhi, Pollen and Jia Hor Soy Protein. And on the skin, I bathe her with VCare Showergel and applied Greenzhi and VCare Body Lotion until the whole body is totally recovered. Up till now, I apply Body Lotion everytime after her bath with VCare Showergel. I put on Greenzhi once in a while if she got some insect bites.

:)

Peek-a-boo!

Uhuk uhuk. It's been a while since I last updated this blog. Bit dusty here and there. But, hey! Why aren't most of the images in this page appearing? Got to fix this soon!

By the way, I'm a bit busy nowadays with my new Shuang Hor ambassador. Here she is...

... and  I will (Insya Allah!) find some time to share what she's been up to since about 6 months ago. :)

Cloth diapers : Care

Now you want to try Cloth Diapers (CD). What's next?

We need to know how to care for them. The use of normal liquid detergents is a NO-NO for baby wears. It's because the residual traces from the chemical products on the clothing will cause skin irritation when our body perspire. For babies, this is dangerous as the harmful ingredients may penetrate into the skin and causes chronic diseases such as eczema.

I've encountered two famous CD brands on the web; Grovia and Rumparooz, and surprised with 2 different approaches they are pursuing. Being a curious consumer, I contacted them via e-mail regarding the recommended CD cleaning products.

Grovia, from its website, discourages the use of enzyme cleaners while Rumparooz on the other hand, encourages it. Hurm...

So these were their replies to my inquiry :

From Rumparooz : We highly recommend the use of detergents that contain enzymes

"When caring for your diapers we simply have suggestions and recommendations. I am not familiar with the product that you are using so I can not speak about it specifically. The number 1 thing that is most important when caring for diapers is to make sure that you are using a detergent that has enzymes. Enzymes are natural and biodegradable and they have specific "roles" in cleaning. There are enzymes that break down fats and enzymes that break down proteins and both of these enzymes should be present in your detergent to get the diapers clean. Without them the filth and poop is not cleaned from the diapers."

but here is the reply from Grovia : DO NOT use bleach, enzyme cleaners or fabric softeners

"Thank you for contacting us regarding your interest in our products. We do not recommend the use of enzyme cleaners in cloth diapers for two reasons. First, if the enzymes are not throughly rinsed from the fabric, they can actually work their "magic" on baby's bottom, resulting in irritation and rash. Secondly, repeated use of enzyme cleaners will cause the materials to wear more quickly, as with regular use over time they will also eat away at the cotton soaker pads. Enzyme cleaners do an amazing job of eliminating organic wastes, but if they aren't rinsed throughly they can eat away at both baby and diaper, and therefore we don't recommend their use for diapers. If you do further research on cloth diaper friendly laundry detergents, you will find that those which contain fragrances, dyes, enzymes and optical brighteners do not come highly recommended.

I would be very very cautious with using enzyme cleaner in diapers, they can cause serious rashes as they can eat away at baby's skin, as well as the materials of the diaper. There are several enzyme-free natural detergents that I would highly recommend. Ultimately it is your decision but I do urge you to research alternatives further."

First of all, I would like to thank both Grovia and Rumparooz for replying my inquiry promptly. I appreciate good customer service. And of course I respect both tips and advice. As a consumer, we need to be wise and know why we should or should not use certain products.

In my experience using GoEco Liquid Detergent (LD) and GoEco All Purpose Cleaner (APC), it is definitely the products I would recommend. To Grovia's concern, it is required to rinse the CDs thoroughly using enzyme cleaners as it may cause harm on the baby's skin otherwise. But I noticed after using GoEco Bio Enzyme LD, it is very easy to be rinsed, and does not leave soapy effect on our hands like normal detergents do. (Takde rase licin2 macam lepas pakai sabun biasa yang kena bilas banyak2 kali) So less water consumption and more effective cleaning! Besides, if you are using normal detergents on your baby wears, you actually need to rinse it thoroughly too! Because traces of the ingredients could lead to more severe diseases on the skin, and also internally! Also, Grovia also explained that enzyme cleaners might 'eat out' the cotton diapers. Hurm. I think cheap detergents will do worse cause it is harsh on the material? Erk. I always believe natural ingredient is the safest way to go! What do you say?

Now... what are actually GoEco products?

Formulation : Protease Enzyme, Anti-Redeposition Cellulose, and Complex Super Detergent
  • An enzyme formulation that is highly biodegradable, does not pose any health concern, contributes to environmental protection, and gets rid of stubborn stains effectively;
  • Suitable for all washable clothing, including premium quality garments, underclothes, and baby wear. After laundry, the clothing would give a soft and smooth touch and do not get wrinkled, entangled, or hardened;
  • Sets you free from the worry of residual traces of chemicals and does not harm your hands or cause skin allergies. Imparts your clothing with a natural, refreshing scent after laundry;
  • A concentrated and efficient liquid detergent that needs only one-third the amount of a normal detergent, produces low suds, and is easier to be rinsed. Comparatively, its use brings the benefits of saving water, time, and power consumption;
  • Conforms to the regulations of Eco Friendly Label, totally free from contents that are harmful to the human body and environment. These include phosphorus, optical brighteners, and bleaching agents;
  • It also contains Anti-redeposition Cellulose, which immediately envelops or wraps up the dirt dislodged during the process of laundry to prevent secondary contamination of the washed clothing.
  • Besides with the dirt being broken down into smaller clusters by the enzymes, the clothing becomes readily to be rinsed clean with ease, hence doing away with the need for a softener. As such, GoEco Bio Enzyme Liquid Detergent is your answer to ensuring that your clothing always stay as clean as new.

Formulation : Lipase Enzyme, Protease Enzyme, Glucoside Cleaning Agent, and Non-lonic Cleaning Agent
  • An enzyme formulation that is highly biodegradable. Capable of thoroughly breaking down the oily film on the tableware and kitchen as well as the flooring.
  • It features low suds and no residual traces, leaving the surfaces squeaky clean after washing;
  • Highly concentrated formulation that needs only a small amount to generate economical cleaning results;
  • It is free from any harmful solvents and hence does not harm your hands, the utensils, or the surfaces of any material, making it safe and environmental friendly;
  • The sponge, rag, and washing basin do not become oily and can be rinsed clean with ease after use.
  • As the breaking down is effected by enzymatic actions, it helps dislodge the oily stains that have built up in the draining pipes to reduce problems associated with blockage, keeping your kitchen and household environment clean and hygienic at all times.
You may need to wait for another few more months at least to hear from my personal experience using GoEco products on CD washing. (",) As for now, I've been using GoEco for my household cleaning and extremely love it. Especially GoEco LD, with fresh-scent naturally extracted from Lavender. GoEco APC which contains lemon oil is also very good for washing cars and kitchen utensils. With these products, you do not need to buy different detergents for different type of cleaning in the house. Only 2 bottles of cleaner (LD and APC) for the whole house -- talk about saving money! And most importantly, safe for you and your baby!

*Edited*

I just came to realize why GoEco LD is essential to us especially breastfeeding mommies. Make sure you use it to wash your undergarments too! Because your baby is close to your body when breastfeeding. When our body perspires, traces of chemical products from the detergent used on our clothes might affect our babies. Let's create a healthier younger generation. Stop spreading diseases! Reduce unnecessary medications and live healthy!

Cloth diapers

Save the planet, save the earth!

How do you take part in making sure we are doing what we are supposed to maintain a healthy environment? Get rid of plastic bags? Well, that's a start but not the total solution. I remember how my hubby always yank about how we should not stop using plastic bags immediately. The people need to be taught how to make full use of the plastic bags we got from groceries shopping. Yeah. For people like us, we REALLY appreciate those plastic bags. We never simply throw them away. No no. It's too precious!

What else can we do?

Well, I'm not pretending to be like Captain Planet, here. But since I have been exposed to all the health awareness programs, things have become easier for me to accept the responsibility and do my part, a very small one, in helping creating a better living environment for the next generations, insya Allah.

Recently, I have been doing some research on Cloth Diapers (CD). Since I'm ending my 2nd trimester in a few more weeks (insya Allah), I thought it would be better to get myself loaded with knowledge and infos on the pros and cons using the CD. :)

Picha taken from Permata Ummi

At first, CD was never an option for me. Thinking that it would be a hassle compared to the disposable diapers. And not forgetting about the price! Gulp! But hey, thanks to the new technology of the world wide web, I managed to get useful information regarding its benefits. It's costly? Of course, definitely! 1 piece of CD ranges from about RM20 up to RM90! Wowwie. And I read that ideally, a baby requires 5 CD changing in a day. So we need to prepare ourselves with 10 CDs (at least) in order to survive the next day while the 1st day's CDs are being washed. Sounds difficult? If you want it to sound like one! So when I started to really investigate what's behind all the price and stuffs, I got to realize that it definitely saves money in the long run. Imagine having 10CDs for a child. It could last from the 1st day your little junior was born up till 3-4 years old. And when the next junior arrived, you don't have to buy a new set of CDs (unless you can't resist the cutie colours and prints). Even if you have 10 more juniors on the line, the same CDs can be used over and over again. Ok, maybe you might need to have more sets of CDs, but hey, imagine how much money you could save every month -- including fewer garbage bags! Brilliant? Yes!

When my mom and I were having our girl-chat yesterday, she also encourages about the use of CD. At first, she was not aware about CD's existence. But when I told her about the 'modern' diaper changing made of cloth, she totally supports it! That's why we love our mommies. Always positive and never rejects our (sometimes) ridiculous idea! Why? Because disposable diapers are easy - dispose after use. Easy, kan? So washing off the stains, hang them to dry, use it again - sounds a little ridiculous la - in these (konon) modern days. It's not so alien to our mommies pon because apparently, that's what they have been doing many many years ago, while we were kids! Dulu mana ade pampers!

Try googling "cloth diaper+vs+disposable diapers cost".

Of course not everybody is keen with the idea. But most of them who are against it might feel it is time-consuming since they have their day-jobs and no maids around. Well, IMHO when it comes to raising our children with the best care, it is not something that can be negotiated. So we need to think of what is our real priority. You think you can skip the first few years of their development and try to regain it in another few years? Think again. By that time, they've been raised up in a way you may not want and it's impossible to turn back time!

Still thinking raising baby is a hassle? Gah! Try raise some kittens! Having a baby definitely is the best thing in your life. I can feel it now it's dancing in my belly!

Alhamdulillah. Life is so very beautiful!

Baby is Hirschsprung-ed.

Remember about that 2-month-old baby who's suffering from digestion problem and had to wait for about a month till the doctor came out with the result? Well, I shall make a correction about a statement in my earlier post that the baby is actually a boy, named AZ.

He's 3-month-old now and the result has been out. He's confirmed with Hirschprung disease and was scheduled to undergo a surgery to remove part of his intestine last Monday. According to the last message from the father, AZ would be having a hole on the side of his stomach to replace his digestion 'pipe' and he'll be living like that till AZ is 7-8 months old or at least when he already weighs 8kg. The last time I saw the baby, his condition was very weak, very small and he merely made 2kg for his weight.

After the first few consumption of YKLZ, AZ indeed got better, in terms that he had some bowel movements after about a week of not having it. Later, the father stopped giving him YKLZ because AZ refused to take it, probably because he could taste the bitterness of that triterpenoids contained in YKLZ. AZ's condition got worsen after that and I tried to convince the parents to continue YKLZ consumption with an addition of JiaHor Soy Protein. AZ was said to refuse taking both YKLZ and JHSP thus not making his condition any better.

I felt really sad for his health and just wish that he could have more courage to live the many more days to come and overcome the disease he's currently suffering. So to those of you out there who feel pity for this baby, you could at least be extra careful on what to feed your babies, and especially to nursing mommies or pregnant women, watch what you eat, cause it will go straight to your baby and that defines whether your baby would be healthy or not.

Others who have extra moolah, you can extend your donation straight to the father of the child, which could reduce the burden of settling off the medication fee which the father is handling it alone right now, since the mommy is a full-time housewife. All donations can be made to :

MAYBANK ACC : 164100258387
FIKRI BIN YA'ACOB

If 100 people donated RM1 each, it could help a lot to this family. Please have some mercy for the young guy as if he's yours.

And everyone else, let's take some moment to pray for AZ's health so that he could live for the many more years to come healthily with his 2 elder sisters.

" In the name of Allah, The Most Gracious, The Most Merciful ... "

Baby, be strong.

Last week, KN came up to me telling that her friend's baby was diagnosed with a serious disease. The 2-month-old baby almost underwent a surgery last Monday in JB. She was suspected to be having Hirschsprung Disease. The surgery was supposed to remove part of her defected intestine. But would it cure her?

KN gave me the father's contact number and we met up. Apparently, the baby was normal for the past 2 months. Only recently, when she was supposed to be vaccinated, the nurse in charged informed the parents of the baby's abnormality. She looked very skinny. Then, the parents realized that the baby has a constipation problem for 8 days already. After explaining to the father about health and some of ShuangHor's product, he was convinced with the product and bought a bottle of Yung Kien Lingzhi. AN suggested a capsule per hour till the constipation problem solved.

The baby was admitted in JB Hospital. So the following night, the baby was given a capsule of YKLZ. The next morning, the stool came out green. Not too hard. Not too soft. That's a good reaction. Only that, according to AN, green stool might be a sign of bad liver. The father continued giving YKLZ to the baby and she has improved day by day. The latest news was she produced yellow stool. Alhamdulillah.

This morning, the father informed me that the baby already refused to take YKLZ. Previously, he opened up the capsule, put YKLZ in a bottle of water and feed the baby. Now, the baby can differentiate the taste, and mind you, YKLZ has only one taste, that is VERY BITTER! So the mother continued to consume the capsules. I adviced the father to put YKLZ in a syringe and force-feed the baby. That's the only way.  But his concern is now whether YKLZ will reverse the effect of hormone-pills the wife is taking.

For everyone's info, hormone-pills are no good for nursing mother, baby, teenagers with pimple problems, family planning or girls with monthly-cycle problem. In short, hormone-pills are no good for anyone! Don't be surprised that even some guys take hormone-pills. The possibility of one getting side effects from that medication is extremely high and the side effects include breast cancer, blood clots, stroke, tumors, and the list goes on and on.

So to answer the father's concern, no, YKLZ will not reverse the effect of hormone-pills, but it may somehow reduce the possible side effects that might occur during the consumption. But for me, why take the risk?

The baby is now waiting for another month for the doctors to confirm whether she needs to undergo a surgery to remove part of her intestine or not. Let's pray that she'll do fine without any alteration in her body. Imagine if it happens to your 2-month-old baby. What would you do?
